A short intensive course was carried out between 13-15/05/2014 in the Old City of Jerusalem. 9 participants (including engineers and workers in the field of heritage conservation) attended the course that was given by Dr. Nickolas Durnan and Mr. David Odgers. The course explored the concept of (Conservation of Plaster and Mortar in Stone masonry) and focused on the following topics:

How lime is made and used and why it is a fundamental material for the built heritage.
Recognize the different types of lime and understand how to use them.
Introducing practical repair options such as: complete replacement, partial indenting, pointing, protective mortar repair as well as the consequences of no treatment.

Course also included practical training in the field on Arab Fund restoration projects.

This course is part of the efforts to establish an applied training institute for practitioners and professionals in the preservation of architectural heritage , and offer capacity building and applied training for engineers, architects, contractors and skilled labour involved in conservation.
